Application for Research & Development Officer

The Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency (MARENA) has been created to oversee and promote the development of Renewable Energy in Mauritius and operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities. The Agency intends to fill the following vacancy and invites candidates who have the necessary experience, expertise, interpersonal skills and drive to apply.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, MARENA is inviting applications from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment as Research & Development Officer (RDO) for two-year contract basis, renewable if necessary.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

    • Possess at least a Master’s Degree in one of the following fields- Econometrics or Economics or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the MARENA Board;

    • At least 3 years post qualification related work experience in energy/renewable energy sector or related areas will be an added advantage;

    • Have good research, information, organizational, numerical, computational, analytical, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills; and

    • Have positive attitude towards work and be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.


Salary:

    • Salary package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

SCHEME OF DUTY

Main Duties:

The candidate will be responsible, amongst others, to:

  • keep up-to-date with research/policy developments and assist in the preparation of technical, policy, strategy papers;

  • undertake research/surveys/studies and their management;

  • write proposals and undertake research needs analysis;

  • search and retrieve information from various sources using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods;

  • liaise with stakeholders, researchers and with relevant organisations locally and overseas;

  • organise stakeholders’ meetings;

  • assist in conducting seminars/workshops for proper dissemination of research findings;

  • participate in the execution of strategic plans for the RE;

  • initiate, develop, conduct and lead sub-programmes/projects of the Agency.

  • prepare project requirements, objectives and research reference terms and to assist with the monitoring of project deadlines;

  • prepare articles, briefs and other documentation materials related to the programmes of the Agency;

  • develop relevant performance indicators;

  • initiate and conduct seminars/workshops for proper dissemination of research output;

  • carry out modelling using software tools;

  • collect and compile data and maintain various research databases;

  • update the Management Information Systems of the Agency.
