Training Workshop on Project Evaluation Tool
In light with the development of the Renewable Energy (RE) Sector in Mauritius, the Mercados Group, appointed under the SADC/Green Climate Fund (GCF) co-funded consultancy for the ‘Establishment of a National Grid Code and Development of Standards, Funding and Incentive Strategy for Renewable Energy (RE) Projects in Mauritius’, has been tasked to develop a project evaluation tool for the assessment of on-grid and off-grid Renewable Energy Technologies. The tool is expected to allow MARENA and its stakeholders to undertake a qualitative and quantitative assessment of individual Renewable Energy projects for Applied Research, Demonstration & Development, Focused on Market and Mature Technologies.
A two-day training on the proposed Project Evaluation Tool was held on 29-30 October in Port-Louis.

Training Workshop on Floating Photo-Voltaic (FPV)
Under the Component 1 of the GCF Funded – “Accelerating the transformational shift to a low-carbon economy in the Republic of Mauritius” project, the MARENA, in collaboration with the UNDP, has organised a training on Floating Solar PV (FPV) technology.
The training was targeted at audiences within public institutions of Mauritius which could be involved in FPV project developments in Mauritius, as well as private stakeholders who want to learn about the potential for FPV deployment in Mauritius. The objective is to build capacity related to the basics of FPV projects (technology concepts, installation requirements, design considerations, benefits and drawbacks and more aspects as outlined in the training agenda) to enable the stakeholders to issue and assess FPV tenders / bids for any site within Mauritius, as well as to identify suitable sites, develop conceptual designs and adequately assess the feasibility of deploying FPV on such sites.

Under the Component 1 of the GCF Funded – “Accelerating the transformational shift to a low-carbon economy in the Republic of Mauritius” project, the MARENA, in collaboration with the UNDP, has organised trainings on (1) Energy Statistics, Indicators, Economics, and (2) Market, Policy and Technologies.
The objectives of these trainings were to strengthen the capacity of technical experts who provide support to decision-makers in the energy sector as well as private industries involved in the demand side energy use and management.
