1. The Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency (MARENA) is a body corporate set up under the MARENA Act of 2015 and operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities. Its main objective is to oversee and promote the development of renewable energy in Mauritius has among its functions to elaborate a renewable energy strategic plan.
2. The MARENA is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on contract for an initial period of two years. Prospective candidates for the post should be of a seasoned high caliber with a strategic and result-oriented mindset aiming at fulfilling the mission, goals and strategic objectives of the Agency.
3. Qualifications
Candidates should possess a Master's degree in the fields of Engineering or Science or Economics or energy related area from a recognised institution or equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board of MARENA.
An additional post-graduate degree in Business Management or Business Administration will be an advantage.
4. Professional and Work Experience
Candidates should:
(i) reckon at least eight years of relevant post-qualification experience at Senior Management Level;
(ii) have professional experience in policy formulation and development of strategy;
(iii) have wide experience in the implementation and monitoring of strategic plans; and
(iv) have experience in project management and operationalization of best practices in the renewable energy sector.
A. Candidates should produce written evidence of experience/knowledge claimed.
B. The onus for submission of written evidence of knowledge claimed and equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Higher Education Commission or Mauritius Qualification Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered in case of non-submission of written equivalence of knowledge claimed and evidence certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
Candidates should:
(i) have good administrative and strong analytical, organising, negotiating and leadership skills;
(ii) have good communication and interpersonal skills;
(iii) be able to motivate and encourage staff towards effective performance of work as well as build trust and confidence among peers and subordinates;
(iv) be highly motivated, Big picture thinking, result-orientated and versatile; and
(v) be computer literate.
To be responsible for:
(i) the execution of policy of the Board of MARENA;
(ii) the control and management of the day to day business of the Agency;
(iii) developing the strategy for the implementation of the Agency's functions in all relevant thematic areas;
(iv) to prepare the annual work programme and budget plan of the Agency;
(v) to coordinate the activities of the Agency with other relevant national regional and international institutions; and
(vi) to perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected by the Board in the roles ascribed to the CEO.
A flat monthly salary of Rs 110,125.
8. Other Benefits
Incumbent for the post will be entitled to leave, passage benefits, travelling allowance and car benefits in accordance with the 2021 Report of the Pay Research Bureau.
